Unisync LED Retrofit Case Study

An LED Lighting Upgrade for Canada's Largest Corporate Apparel Distributor.

Think Green Solutions upgraded Unisync Group's Ontario facility to LED, cutting monthly lighting costs from $4,971 to $1,307, a $3,664 monthly saving.

  • Client Overview

Unisync Group is, in the words of David Fralick, Vice President, Distribution, “Canada's largest corporate apparel distributor”: a full project management company that works with leading national brands across the country. Think Green Solutions upgraded the lighting at its Ontario facility to LED. In the project video below, David Fralick, Leah Gordon (Embroidery Supervisor), Sharon Steinberg (Distribution) and Brian Simpson (Warehouse Manager) talk about the upgrade and what it changed.

The Challenge

Unisync's facility combines a sewing and embroidery production floor with a large warehouse and distribution operation. When David Fralick, Vice President, Distribution, looked at the project, he had three goals.

  • The Same Lights for Years

As Leah Gordon, Embroidery Supervisor, puts it, “we've always had the same lights before.”

  • Cost Savings

Goal one: cost savings on the existing lighting.

  • Staff Productivity

Goal two: a better environment for staff productivity.

  • Green Savings

Goal three: green savings that would keep Unisync ahead of the trend in its industry.

Why Unisync Chose Think Green Solutions

Think Green came in with an engineered solution, and the installation never got in the way of production.

  • The Homework Was Done

Think Green did all the homework on the energy savings, the cost savings and the return on investment.

  • Easy to Approve

That made it easy for David to take the project to Unisync's executives and get it approved.

  • One Area at a Time

The crew worked one area at a time, so staff always knew where they would be.

  • A Professional Crew

As Brian Simpson, Warehouse Manager, puts it, “they were very professional, very efficient, and it's almost like you had to remind yourself that they were in the building.”

The Results

The upgrade cut Unisync's monthly lighting costs from $4,971 to $1,307, and the staff on the floor noticed the difference right away.

  • $3,664 a Month in Savings

Monthly lighting costs fell from $4,971 with the old lighting to $1,307 with Think Green lighting, a saving of $3,664 a month.

  • A Much Brighter Floor

“When they actually changed them, I was really impressed with how bright it became,” says Leah Gordon, Embroidery Supervisor.

  • No Heat Break All Summer

Leah's department ran so much cooler that it was the first summer in a long time without a heat break.

  • Less Eye Strain

Sharon Steinberg, Distribution, is in front of a computer screen all day, reading letters that are “teeny tiny.” The better lighting “decreased my eye strain immensely,” and the little bits of pain she used to get through the day have stopped.

  • Cost and Environmental Benefits

The Unisync team's advice to other companies: “go for it. The cost benefits are amazing, the environmental benefits are amazing, and it really, really does impact the workers.”

An Engineered Solution

Client Testimonial

It was very comforting that they came in with an engineered solution, did all the homework to provide the energy savings, the cost savings, the return on investment, and it made it very, very easy for me to go to my executives to get approval to implement this.

Canadian Tire Georgetown is an 80,000-square-foot retail store serving thousands of customers every week.
