Commonly-usedlighting terms.

The words you'll see on your estimate, each explained in one simple sentence.

Lumen
The unit measuring total visible light output from a fixture.
Lux / Foot-candle
Units measuring light level at a surface. Lux is metric, foot-candle is imperial.
Color temperature (CCT)
Measured in Kelvin, describes how warm or cool a light source appears.
CRI
The Color Rendering Index, measuring how accurately a light source reveals true colors, on a 0 to 100 scale.
Driver
The component that regulates power to an LED fixture, similar to a ballast in older lighting.
High-bay fixture
A fixture designed for tall ceilings, typically in warehouses and industrial spaces.
Wall-pack
An exterior fixture mounted to a wall, commonly used to light building perimeters and parking areas.
Photometric layout
A lighting plan that simulates expected light levels across a space before installation.
Commissioning
The process of verifying a lighting system performs as designed after installation.
